This software provides a powerful GIS based editing system for editing your
utility Geographic Information System (GIS). CMSEditä
is PC based which provides for low cost editing of your system while competing systems use
expensive UNIX workstations. CMSEditä
can be operated on either desktop or portable PCs providing a unique in field editing
capability.
Key Benefits
Collect GIS information in the field utilizing portable
PCs. CMSEditä does not require access to a centralized database to
perform edits. This allows multiple users to simultaneously take their own system out into
the field to do the field inventory collection.
Enter and update data using intelligent data entry forms. CMSEditä provides easy to use data entry forms which ease and verify
the entry of attribute data. Extensive use of drop-down lists, option buttons, and graphic
icons ease the entry of complex inventory information.
The software is modularized in structure which allows the editing
and analysis software to be used independently. Users who
do not require editing, can still perform inquiry and analysis of the system.
Open Data Structure.
System Requirements
GIS systems store, retrieve, and display vast quantities of data and are generally one
of the most demanding PC applications. While any PC supporting Windows 95 or higher can be
used, a user with a minimally configured PC will have a difficult time editing a large
database with an under powered machine. The general rule of thumb with GIS systems is buy
the most you can afford. The larger the database, the greater the need for CPU power and
RAM. The following recommendations are generally made for PC configurations.
CPU: Pentium or higher. Pentium II recommended for
desktop systems and Pentium 233 for portables.
RAM: 32mb (minimum) / 64mb (recommended)
for Windows 95. 64mb (minimum) / 96mb (recommended) for Windows NT.
Software: ArcView 3.1 or greater.
Windows 95, or Windows NT. Windows NT recommended for desktop systems and Windows 95
recommended for portables. Using the same PC with 32mb of RAM, CMSEditä operates
approximately 10 percent faster using Windows NT instead of Windows 95.
Display: Super VGA video card capable of 256
color display at a minimum resolution of 800 x 600. A windows accelerated card capable of
256 colors at 1024 x 768 with a 19" monitor is recommended for desktop systems.
Portable system should be active matrix because of the glare problems associated with
field operations.
Mouse: Any windows supported pointing device.
Disk: Disk drive should be of sufficient size to hold
applications, user swap space, and a complete copy of the water/sewer database. CMSEditä is
a compact application requiring less than 10mb of disk space. User data size will be the
deciding factor.
Network: Both desktop and portable PCs need to be
networked to the GIS database server in order to move the large volumes of GIS data
around. Typically SAMBA is used for GIS servers using UNIX. Windows networking is used for
Windows NT based GIS server configurations. Other networking options are available but
each PC should be configured to communicate on the network.
