CMS Inc, a strategic Azteca Business Partner, developed a special NT service designed to enhance the Cityworks Email functionality. The Cityworks SMTP server (CWSMTP) is a NT service which can run on your Cityworks database server. It is configured to periodically query the Cityworks Workorder database for workorders which are scheduled and to send Email messages when the job is scheduled to be performed. This is especially important for cyclic workorders.

Cityworks 3.7 added support for sending Email notifications when workorders were created and submitted to an employee. Prior to this release, users were required to login and search for workorders assigned to them. There are a few problems with this new Email System.

Workorder are emailed at the moment they are created or edited, not when they are scheduled. This is apparent when Cyclic Workorders are created. You get an Email when you create the workorder, not 6 months later when its time to perform the work.

The service ships with a simple configuration utility called CWSMTPConfig. This utility can be run at anytime to change any of the service settings. The changes take affect on the next service polling interval. The service only requires a few basic settings.
